Increasing professionalism and efficiency in cocoa farming and bringing better results to farmers
The Cargill Cocoa Promise™ program is our initiative to enable farmers and their communities achieve better incomes and living standards while growing cocoa sustainably.
Our ambition is to accelerate progress towards a transparent global cocoa supply chain, to enable cocoa farmers and their communities to strengthen their socioeconomic resilience, and to deliver a sustainable supply of cocoa and chocolate products from bean to end-product.
We will achieve this ambition by leveraging our global reach and experience, and by working together with our vast network of partner organizations and stakeholders. These include 200 local farmer organizations as well as NGOs, governments and industry partners.
We established the Cargill Cocoa Promise™ program in 2012 as a formal, future-looking and action-oriented framework for our global sustainability activities, building on 10 years of experience in the field with farmers and farmer organizations.
In 2017, we introduced our Sustainability Goals, building on the impact of the Cargill Cocoa Promise™ program while aligning our ambitions with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This framework has allowed us to broaden our scope to encompass our indirect cocoa supply chain and how we source other ingredients used to produce chocolate.

Reducing child labor in West Africa is a critical priority for us, and an important issue for both consumers and customers. We are working with the industry to eradicate child labor in cocoa farming.
We have established an industry-leading monitoring system to identify and protect children in Cargill’s cocoa supply chain.
