Cargill Deventer: Inside the facility powering cost-effective innovation

Reformulation starts with the right infrastructure. At our Deventer site, we’re scaling up to meet your needs including our Nextcoa™ innovation. Winnie Schouten, Plant Manager explains how our dedicated coatings facility helps you cut costs and keep delight.
Cargill’s Deventer plant in the Netherlands is devoted exclusively to the production of coatings and fillings. As part of our journey to better serve your growing needs for specialty coatings & fillings for years to come, we recently began work to double our capacity here. It’s part of our strategic roadmap to help you win with “cost-effective delights” – the solution to delighting your consumers while protecting your margins.
“At Deventer, we’ve always had the capabilities to work with an incredibly large range of fats, oils and blends to offer a wealth of options for you, our customers,” notes Winnie Schouten, Plant Manager (Deventer). “Our equipment is able to handle fats that range in melting temperatures, between something that is fully liquid at room temperature and something that melts at 65°C,” she adds.
As part of our recent capacity increases, we have boosted our production of non-standard powders and flavors, and have new capabilities in different melting fats, cocoa powders and sugar replacers.
In effect, the Deventer plant extension will serve your growing needs for specialty coatings & fillings for years to come. It’s this same facility that can also produce specialty products like no palm coatings & fillings or Cargill’s newly introduced NextcoaTM confectionery alternative to chocolate, which was developed together with food technology company Voyage Foods. This solution is made with grape seeds and sunflower instead of cocoa.
But this is not all. The compounds that we are now able to produce at Deventer mean that we can now offer chunks to our customers. And last but not least, our upgraded facility means that we’re now able to offer compound solutions for customers requiring a “no nuts” claim. The upgraded facility features a segregated line for compounds without nuts, separate from a line for products containing hazelnut. Both lines have been developed to maximize efficiency and increase production volumes.
Deventer is devoted exclusively to the production of coatings and fillings. This knowhow ensures that innovations developed at the site can have a spectacular impact on the end-product, the visual or the sensory experience. For example, our customers rely on this knowhow to help in their new product development and ensure that existing product enhancements come to life. They do this by making use of our extensive and flexible laboratory facilities to continually develop new flavors, and textures. Additionally, they can work with our technicians on everything from recipe development to on-site support at your plant, as well as an expert sensory panel at our House of Chocolate® facility in Mouscron (Belgium).
Let our experts guide you in your reformulation journey, as we continue to innovate together. Let’s find the sweet spot together with cost-effective delights! Cut cost. Keep delight.
