National Dairy Month, for Us It's Personal
National Dairy Month brings about many emotions for Cargill employees; pride in their work, hope for the future, and motivation to continue to improve the dairy industry. For some, June is a month to reflect on their own experience in the dairy industry and for others, it’s an opportunity to give back. Celebrating National Dairy Month is more than just part of the job. For Cargill’s dairy team, it’s personal.
Ann Mesman, a former customer turned Cargill Calf and Heifer Specialist from California, shares this same passion for educating the public. “A lot of people don’t know where their food comes from or don’t have a positive view of commercial dairy. Educating people is particularly important,” Ann commented. “I love being a part of that and talking to people about where their food comes from.”
For many team members, their investment in the dairy industry is much more than a job. “The dairy industry is truly important to me and to work for a company that cares so much about it means a lot at the end of the day,” said Chase Cashell a Dairy Focus Consultant for western New York.
“National Dairy Month gives dairy producers hope and motivation for things to come,” shared Steve Halahan a Dairy Focus Consultant for Southeast Pennsylvania. “I think that having a focus on dairy, when most people forget about it, is a refresher for producers to see that the work they do, the people that feed, and that the products they make still matter.”
“In my area, if a group like 4-H, FFA, Farm Bureau, or other dairy education programs needs support, they come to me.” Mark Spoor, Dairy Focus Consultant in Southwest New York, continued, “They know that at Cargill we are avid volunteers and see tremendous value in these organizations.”
Cargill’s commitment to the dairy industry extends beyond supplying the best quality animal nutrition products and services to producers. As a company invested throughout the supply chain, Cargill invests significantly into dairy product development, and supplies ingredients and new innovations to dairy food companies. Throughout the country our dairy team also spends over 10,000 volunteer service hours annually.
