Sustainable Soy Collective Action

Collaborating for change across the region and industry

We recognize that collective action is needed to help transform the soy industry and fulfill our commitment to eliminate deforestation from our soy supply chain. Listed here are a few examples of how we are collaborating to achieve lasting change toward greater sustainability.

Land Innovation Fund

The Land Innovation Fund for Sustainable Livelihoods – which Cargill launched with a commitment of $30 million – supports projects that will help protect forests and native vegetation across South America. Through the fund, we are working to accelerate the development and implementation of innovative and economically viable options for farmers in South America as alternatives to converting biologically significant forests and other native vegetation.

To address complex and interrelated challenges, the fund is selecting projects on multiple levels:

  • Farmer level – Programs that help farmers adopt sustainable practices, use new technologies, measure impact, and protect natural habitats
  • State level – Policy and fiscal mechanisms that broadly promote the protection of forests and restoration of degraded lands
  • National level – Collaboration with a range of institutions to create opportunities and remove barriers for sector-wide transformation
  • Regional level – Platforms that bring together many types of stakeholders throughout South America aimed at unlocking new solutions

For updates about the projects we are funding and next steps visit the Land Innovation Fund website.

Agriculture Sector Roadmap to 1.5°C

Since signing onto the Sector Roadmap at COP27, we joined other signatories in a 2025 deadline for deforestation-free soy in the South America biomes of Chaco, Cerrado and Amazon and NDPE palm globally. Learn more about the Sector Roadmap operating model.

Soft Commodities Forum

We are working with others in the industry as part of the Soft Commodities Forum focusing on solutions centered on farmers. Learn more about this work to build transparent and traceable soy supply chains and view SCF reports.

Project FOLUR

In Paraguay, we are participating in Project FOLUR (Food Systems, Land Use and Restoration), an initiative co-led by the U.N. Environment Programme that seeks to protect and restore ecosystems in the Gran Chaco through good land use practices while enabling food production.

Visión Sectorial del Gran Chaco Argentino (ViSeC)

In Argentina, we are participating in ViSeC, an initiative focused on protecting native vegetation in the Gran Chaco and elevating sustainability in the soy supply chain.

Programa Argentino de Carbono Neutro (PACN)

We also support the work of PACN to establish a commonly accepted methodology for determining carbon emissions, including guidance for calculating carbon balances and best agricultural practices for reducing atmospheric carbon.
