Re-defining our goals
How we are evolving the Cargill Cocoa Promise
We continually assess the results of our programs, evaluate the learnings, and evolve the Cargill Cocoa Promise to maximize its impact. In 2017, we carried out an in-depth assessment of the most pressing sustainability issues affecting the cocoa sector. We also looked at Cargill’s ability to influence these issues.
Our assessment identified several areas where we believe we can make a real and lasting difference. These include improving livelihoods and productivity, eliminating child labor, providing access to education, enhancing food security, promoting better nutrition, and tackling deforestation.
As a result, we have translated these key issues into five new Cargill Cocoa Promise goals, which will help us to further improve farmer and community livelihoods. The new goals also reinforce our commitment to helping deliver the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Cargill Cocoa Promise goals
Our five goals set out what we hope to achieve through our Cargill Cocoa Promise by the year 2030.
Each goal contains specific, measurable targets, which are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. Targets will also be tailored to local needs at country and community level.
By regularly measuring our progress against these targets, we will be able to identify successful interventions as well as areas for improvement. This results-driven approach will also enable us to assess the impact we are having through our sustainability investments, and demonstrate value to our customers and stakeholders.
