Agri-Pure® Palm Oil and Fractions

Palm oil is one of the most versatile vegetable oils, containing a balance of saturated and unsaturated fatty chains. These components can be separated by crystallization into new palm oil fractions which are harder (more saturated) or softer (more unsaturated) than the parent oil. In this way, palm oil can provide a range of melting points, from liquid oils through to wax-like solids with high melting points.

Palm oil is the main raw material in soap production. Liquid palm oil fractions have good thermal and oxidative stability, and can be used as components of (bio) lubricants, such as metal-working fluids, mold-release agents and rolling oils. Palm-based fatty acids produced during the refining process are useful ingredients for the production of industrial soaps, surfactants, bio-based fire-logs and other technical/industrial applications.

Agri-pure® AP-35: fully refined palm oil
Agri-pure® AP-40: a soft palm fraction, used in the production of soft soaps, lubricants and as a raw material for esters and other derivatives
Agri-pure® AP-835: a stearic acid/palmitic fatty acid mixture. It can be used in technical (non-food) applications as an alternative to oleochemical-grade stearic acid - e.g. in the production of industrial soaps, metal salts and other derivatives, bio-based fire-lighters/logs, greases and SBR rubber, to name but a few.
Agri-pure® AP-135: palm fatty acids. It has a lower melting point compared to the AP-835 grade, and is most suited to the production of soaps and fire lighters/logs.
Blends: Palm oil and its fractions can be combined and modified in many different ways, to provide new products with different characteristics perfectly tailored to the customer’s needs. These characteristics can include e.g.
- Melting point
- Crystallization speed and profile
- Hardness
- Surface texture
- Oil-retaining capacity
High-melting palm products: hydrogenation and fractionation processes are used to increase the hardness and melting point of the parent oil or fat, and the resulting products are used in the production of candles, coatings and other wax-related applications.
